A World Court Trilogy

In anticipation of the eightieth anniversary of the ICJ in 2026, Arthur Eyffinger produced
 A World Court Trilogy.
The ambitious project covers the concept of the idea, the  genesis and the first century of operation of the ‘World Court’ (the International Court of Justice in the Peace Palace at The Hague) in three substantial volumes.
The project is twofold. It provides for volumes that feature a lavishly illustrated presentation of the subject-matter, next to volumes that present the texts only. This latter version includes ample documentation sections and full indexes for reference purposes to the student of the law.
All volumes include a wealth of  biographies and including reviews of the lives of all the judges who ever served on the Court.

Hugo Grotius
The Laws of War and Peace (1625)

In 1991 Arthur Eyffinger and Ben Vermeulen published a selection of texts from Grotius’ De jure Belli ac Pacis with an introductory note. In 2025, on the occasion of the fourcentenary of Grotius’ major work from 1625 the Dutch ‘Stichting Handboekbinden’ (Foundation Manual Bookbinding) organized a competition among bookbinders for the reproduction of the volume of 1991 in a luxury edition. Sixty unique copies were put on display in a major exhibition at Loevestein Castle, Grotius’ site of captivity (September 2025 - September 2026)
